I am using it on an A7RII and have taken about 600 shots along with a many short video clips. I have not had any focus issues. The lens is very sharp, light and compact. I have avoided the Sony 24-70 f2.8 because of the cost and size. This lens has been great. Silent in video / no focus noise at all. All focus options work just like the Sony lens I have. No complaints and an amazing value at this price.

Excellent-Sharp, Fast, Compact, Light and priced right!

Ive been shooting with this lens for the last 2 days, on actual photoshoots and it has been flawless. I actually listed my GM on ebay after the first day. Sharpness has been truely amazing. Shooting on a A7R3. I compared it to my GM and couldnt justify keeping the GM. The Tamron for my use it a better lens with better autofocus speed and 99% the same sharpness? REPLY

This lens is absolutely gorgeous. Minus some vignetting, a stiff zoom, and the focal ring being behind the zoom for some reason, its a pretty great lens. At the time of writing this, Tamron released this first roung with a pretty awful bug — the focus doesnt work sometimes. Not just the AF, but in manual as well. Apparently this will be fixed in an upcoming firmware update through the camera. It can usually be fixed by turning the camera on in photo mode first and/or re-attaching the lens, but still. Pretty big error on Tamrons part. And hopefully the bug is fixed immediately. If not, I will be returning it. I hope it doesnt come to that.

After using the lens Im very happy with it. It is sharp, compact and cheap. Good the top line lens is just too large and heavy for A7 mirrorless camera. Lots of noise about the focus issue about the lens but I have no problem at all on my A7R2 and A7S. The center sharpness is fantastic even at f2.8. The corners are softer than my Canon 24-70 F4, Zony 55mm f1.8 but better than Sony 28mm. Except the corners the lens is even better than 24-70mm f4. It is equal if not better than 55mm f1.8. It is definitely better than Sony 28mm. The color is a little dull compares to 55mm f1.8. Similar to Canon 24-70mm F4. Bokeh is not that great but Im not going to use it for that purpose. I have my primes. I also like the macro ability of lens. Love it!

Lets face it, for the price of this lens it is amazing. The pictures are sharp, it has great colors, and the constant aperture makes it a no brainer. One thing that concerns me is the focusing issue. I experienced it when recording my daughters show and throughout her concert i had to attach and reattach the lens. I dont know if this is something tamron can fix through firmware so i will return mine and pick up another copy as soon as the fix is proven to work as this is a great all around lens, and a perfect lens for those looking for this range without spending the gm money.

Focus issue in video mod make this lens useless

Well, I am blown away by this glass. Im an really happy with the really light weight and the quality of the images. The focus is exactly as any other Sony lens, covers a great range of focal lengths and it can easily be your daily go to lens. Yes you have to adjust to the the position of the focus and zoom. But after a couple hours of shooting this gets second nature. Really recommended. If you are lucky to get one you wont be disappointed. I have found any focusing issue with my glass and have been using it extensively with both photos and videos.

I bought this lens for Sony a7 iii (mine is with serial number below 00700, so one of the first samples) in order not to manual focus any more. But this lens is not focusing right in 8 out of 10 videos that i make, which makes this lens a paperweight with price tag of 820 euros. I heard of this focus issue (which is not an issue, but a major problem) but i understood it is rear and sometimes, and i will manage until firmware update. This is not rear or sometimes, it is sometimes working. Do not buy this lens, (until you see what will upgrade do) or use it as an extravagant paperweight.

Bright constant f/2.8 maximum aperture affords consistent brightness throughout the zoom range and offers improved control over depth of field.

A moisture-resistant construction benefits this lens use in inclement conditions, and a fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to protect against dust, dirt, and smearing.

Purchase in late June 2018, I have not had any of the focus issues reported. That being said I mainly photo shoot with very little video. You will get the reported vignettes and some bowing both easily corrected if for professional use otherwise its minor and most non trained eyes would not be able to tell. Love the lens, quick autofocus / eye AF and very sharp. All of that plus what I consider its best feature, the size. Travelling means keping pack weight down and this lens is fantastic at only 550 grams far less weight and bulk than the GM lens. Perfect for travel, street walking, touring, backpacking etc. Love this lens and cannot be beaten for the price.
