Roche plays with a Northern Realms deck and uses Spy cards and Decoys when available. Hell focus on amassing siege units in the back line before using a Commanders Horn (with both his Leader Ability and Card) to greatly boost damage. Its likely that youll see a Medic during your games with him, so be ready for a high Strength card to make a comeback at the time. He also has several hero cards including the 15 StrengthCirilla Fiona Elen Riannoncard. Hell also use Scorch at least once in the match. Using the Northern Realms, you should be able to use your Decoy cards and Spy/Medic abilities to quickly gain some additional cards in your hand. Youll also want to try and get him to overcommit early so that youll be able to outlast him with your larger hand. He can be a weather man in the latter rounds so its a good idea (if you havent already) to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if required.

Location:Found in the Inn at the Crossroads, western Velen.

Make your way around to the back of the building to find a conveniently placed stack of crates that we can use to jump up to a wooden ledge above. Once on the wooden platform, enter the building via the open window.

Hell also use quite a few Weather cards, so if you are playing Northern Realms, be sure to choose the Foltest leader card that can cast Clear Weather.

As always, its also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Note:This quest seems a little bit buggy. As I progressed through it, for whatever reason I already had completed several objectives. I later found a second side-questNovigrad, Closed City IIwhich had me complete the objectives which had already been registered as completed in this quest. Weird.

With the Bandits out of the way, you can focus on killing the Werewolf. Be sure to switch in your silver sword though, so you actually deal some decent damage! If you take too long to kill the Werewolf, it can retreat a short distance into the nearby Sunflower fields, which can be frustrating as shell be able to attack you whilst you cant see her. If she does, try to back off or use your crossbow to draw her back out to the road so that you can fight her in the open again.

Speaking with him will complete the side-quest.

Location:Found in The Kingfisher Inn off Hierarchs Square in central Novigrad.

Fists of Fury: Champion of Champions

You can find the Gwent players associated with this side-quest in the following locations:

After defeating all three innkeepers and/or acquiring their unique cards, youll complete the side-quest.

To complete this, we simply need to revisit the King of Beggars in the Putrid Grove. Having a conversation with him will be enough to complete the quest and net you a reward.

After defeating Djikstra, hell let you know where youll find the final challenger for the side-quest.

Start Location:Just north of the Golden Sturgeon Tavern.

Tybalt plays with a Monsters faction deck and he focuses on a combination of high strength Heroes and the Decoy and Muster ability. He the full set of Crones and Arachas Muster cards and will use them in an attempt to overwhelm you when he senses a round can go in his favour. His deck features most of the Monsters faction Heroes and some neutral ones including the 15 StrengthGeralt of Riviacard. Hell use his large number of Decoys to remove and re-play any Spy cards that you place on his side of the table. His leader ability is to re-draw a discarded card and replay it so watch out for a high value or useful abilitied card to make a comeback when he uses it. A good portion of his strategy is similar to Sashas hell load up the front row and use Commanders Horn and Dandelioncards to boost damage.

Prepare yourself and then meditate until sundown (6:00PM). When the anointed hour arrives, youll find Little Red standing on the western side of town. Approach her for a conversation.

However, despite his place at the end of the tournament I found that compared to the previous opponents (and to other Monster deck players in the game) Tybalt actually seemed to fall fairly easily. I found that the best strategy against him is to try to get him to use as many Musters as possible early on use high level units and Decoys especially if you have theVillentretenmerthcard (you can put it out after a Muster to destroy his front row, then use a Decoy to return it to your hand and push it out again after another Muster) to get him to overcommit in the first round. A Northern Real deck (which should be stacked with heroes, Medics and Tight Bond cards by now) should have little trouble against him.

Start Location:This side-quest can be started by speaking with Bertram, located northeast of Novigrad in the town ofYantra.

Witcher Contract: The Phantom of Eldberg (Optional)

Note:For beating Bernard Tulle youll earn25XP.

Note:for completing the quest, youll earn25XP.

Note:If you fail to play and beat Olivier at Gwent before completing Trisss side-questNow or Never(and you made the choice to help the Mages) hell now be dead. Fortunately, you can still find the unique Gwent CardTibor Eggebrachtin the room just to the right of the bar. It is lootable from a small lockbox atop a chest of drawers just inside the door.

Defeating Finneas will earn you one of the Scoiatael deck leader card variantsFrancesca: Queen of Dol Blathanna.

Hidden Treasure: Queen Zuleykas Treasure

If you are able to Bribe/AXIIyour way inside the casino peacefully, youll be able to move up to the first floor and play Gwent with three players around the room. Unfortunately, asking additional information from these players about Whoreson (or being a dick) will unfortunately cause them to call guards on you. Instead, beat all three of them at Gwent. At this point, a scene will play and a fight will break out anyway.

Start Location:Enter the bookstore on the northern side of Hierarchs Square in Novigrad.

An Invitation from Keira Metz (Optional)

Stranger in a Strange Land (Optional)

Hidden Treasure: Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire

Once you have killed the group, a short scene will play in which youll receive a reward to complete the side-quest.

Sasha plays with a Nilfgaardian Empire deck and his deck has a focus on units consisting primarily of Medic, high strength unit and hero cards (including the 15 StrengthGeralt of Riviacard). Shell use her Medic or Decoy cards to pinch and recycle any Spy cards that you play. The most bothersome aspect of Sashas strategy is that if she gets a good draw she has a LOT of Medic cards (including theYennefer of Vendenbergcard) and will constantly use them to revive either discarded Medic cards, Tight Bond cards or high value strength cards to repopulate his side of the board so be ready for that! Shell for the most part load up her front row and use Commanders Horn and Dandelionto boost damage.

Gathering Experience and Levelling Up

You can find the Gwent players associated with this side-quest in the following locations:

Zoltan works with a Scoiatael deck and his focus is primarily on overwhelming you with Muster cards – he has sets of theHavekar SmugglersandDwarven Skirmishersand some Medic cards to re-activate discarded cards. He has several hero cards in his deck including Isengrim Faoltiarna (Morale) and will also use Scorch at least once in the match. In addition to all of that, he also has in his possession aVillentretenmerthcard – so keep an eye on your front row strength values (and keep the total under 10) until he plays it. With a well-constructed Northern Realms deck featuring Heroes, some Tight Bond Units (Blue Stripes Commando + Catapults), Decoys and Spy/Medic cards, you should have no trouble outlasting him. As always, its also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

The Merchant, like Vivaldi works with a Scoiatael deck with plenty of Medic and Agile cards. He also has several strength 10+ Unit and hero cards in his deck (the Ciri card is 15!) and will use Weather cards to the max. This fellow is not afraid to use Scorch in the first round (or at any time really), so be sure to keep that in mind when you start laying out big numbers. As with the previous challengers, a well-constructed Northern Realms deck featuring some Tight Bond Units (Blue Stripes Commando + Catapults), Decoys and Spy/Medic cards, you should have no trouble overwhelming him. As always for those who like to rely on Weather cards, its also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Note:Youll earn100XP,Erlithlad(a Silver Sword) andFreya Warriors Armourfor completing this quest.

Either way you choose to complete the side-quest it will end at this point.

Hidden Treasure: Pearls of the Coast

Djikstra plays with a Northern Realms deck and will rely on a mainly Siege line approach with plenty of siege engines. His big move is making use of the Catapults Tight Bond ability for an instant strength boost. Hell also frequently use Spy cards and Decoys when available and make use of Weather cards as he gets desperate. In the second and third rounds, youll want to keep your card strength values down below her higher strength unit cards as Djikstra loves to use Scorch. Using the Northern Realms, you should be able to use your Decoy cards and Spy/Medic abilities to quickly gain some additional cards in your hand. Youll also want to try and get him to overcommit early so that youll be able to outlast him with your larger hand. Switch your leader to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Note:For beating all four players youll earn the one of the Scoiatael deck leader card variantsFrancesca Findabair: The Beautiful.

Note:For beating Olivier youll earn25XP.

Once we have examined theRope, a scent trail will appear whilst in Witcher Sense mode. Follow this along the road a short distance and up a small flight of stairs and it will lead you to a crate on the ground. Examine this to update your objectives.

Note:For letting the Bandits take Bertram, youll earn25XPand20 Crowns.

Location:Can be found in his usual Bathhouse hangout in Novigrad or in the hidden meeting room in the Passiflora depending on story progression.

Got other plans this evening.

If you do decide to fight the bandits and Little Red, you are in for a tough fight. Little Red herself is Werewolf and her band of six Bandits are all level 15. During the fight, youll want to focus on killing the Bandits first, so try to keep an eye on the Werewolf and useYRDENor other signs (IGNI,AARD) to keep her stunned or at a distance until you can dispatch her underlings.

There are 6-7 level 24-26 enemies in the warehouse who youll need to dispatch to continue. Fortunately, Sasha will team up with you at this point and shes pretty handy with a sword. Use your normal techniques to deal with the enemies (or let Sasha handle them if you are a little under-levelled) and once they have all bit the dust a scene will play.

Note:For beating Vernon Roche youll earn25XP.

The King is Dead Long Live the King

can be found on the second floor, by the side table in the corner of the walkway.

As with the other Gwent side-questsGwent: Playing Innkeepsrequire you to track down and play Gwent against a series of three increasingly difficult opponents. As you approach each of the challengers, you need to speak with them to start a match.

The Fall of the House of Reardon (Optional)

Note:At this point youll earn theGwent Masterachievement/trophy.

Bernard Tulle plays with a Northern Realms deck and he has a large number of Spy cards in his deck that hell wheel out early on to get a large hand. Its also likely that youll see several Medic cards used during your games with him, so be ready for any Spy cards you place on his side of the board or a high strength card or two to make a comeback at the time. He also has several hero cards including most of the Northern Realms heroes and the 15 StrengthGeralt of RiviaandCirilla Fiona Elen Riannoncards. Hell also usually use Scorch at least once in the match and also has theVillentretenmerthcard – so keep an eye on your front row strength values (and keep the total under 10) until he plays it. Hell play mostly Siege level units and can put up Catapults with tight Bond. Hes also a big fan of Biting Frost.

Location:Found in the Alchemy Inn in Oxenfurt.

There are essentially two outcomes to this quest, we can either attack Little Red and her bandits, or allow them to take Bertram. The latter option is easiest as theyll simply take Bertram and head off, never to be seen from again. The former option however is a little trickier.

Hidden Treasure: The Dead Have No Defense

Using the Northern Realms, you should be able to use your Decoy cards and Spy/Medic abilities to quickly gain some additional cards in your hand if you play your cards right you should be able to keep up with his Spy placement with placements of your own to try and balance out your hand size with his. Youll also want to try and get him to overcommit early so that youll be able to outlast him with your larger hand. He can be a weather man in the latter rounds so its a good idea (if you havent already) to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if required.

Location:After starting theFollowing the Threadside-quest youll be able to speak with him. Found in the Nowhere Inn or at Kaer Morhen (depending on story progression).

Defeating him will earn you theMenno CoehhoornGwent card.

Defeating him will earn you theTibor EggebrachtGwent card.

Book My Manifesto: The Life of Jacques de Aldersberg

Like Stjepan, the Innkeep uses a Nilfgaardian Empire deck with some high value Siege/Ranged cards. Hell usually try to link together some unit cards with Tight Bond and try to overpower you with lots of Siege weapons. Hell occasionally use Spy and Medic cards, but not as readily as Stjepan did. With a well-constructed Northern Realms deck featuring some Decoys, Heroes (you should have Yennefer in it by now as well!) and Spy/Medic cards, you should be able to beat him at his own game and out-manoeuvre him. Its also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Miscellaneous Achievements/Trophies

Note:For beating Lambert youll earn25XP.

At this point you can either choose to forgive them, or to end the quest by taking their gear in return and leaving them naked in the midst of town. Either way, the quest will be completed.

Finally, lets head to Novigrad for the final challenger

propped up against the left hand wall of the room.

Start Location:This quest can be acquired via a notice posted on the Hierarchs Square Notice board.

Stjepan uses a Nilfgaardian Empire deck with some high value siege cards and will use Spy cards and Decoys readily. He has a number of Medics in his deck as well, so prepare to see some cards over and over again! Hes also a fan of weather cards so expect to see at least one or two of those when things start going south for him. With a well-constructed Northern Realms deck featuring some Decoys, Heroes and Spy/Medic cards, you should be able to beat him at his own game and out-manoeuvre him. Its also a wise move to switch your leader variant to Foltest with the ability to cast clear weather to help out if you get in a bind in the later rounds.

Location:Hell be found in his usual location in the Temerian Partisan Camp east of Novigrad.

Well now have a new point of interest to investigate. Check out your map and youll see that there is a new objective marker at the northern end of the Novigrad Docks. When you arrive, speak with Sasha to learn that the building of interest is locked and stuff. Time to find another way in.
